People from my workplace.  Now you know why i'm the smartest pea in this pod.

I try not to be "a slave to fashion". Don’t you think that is one of the ways to save our environment?

Been a long long time since i posted on this blog.. Well, it's the start of another week. Which means its time for HEAL THE WORLD Mondays, where i give you pearls of wisdom that people spout to show they care.
These are mostly from the office place, but don't let that make you think we're a bunch of dorks who know nothing and are doing nothing...we survived the financial crisis didn't we? Aaaand we have many online Solitaire experts who practice their skills day in and day out...Sigh..what was i saying again...aaah yes..

Q: What is your contribution to environmental conservation?
A: I have a plant on my office desk!

A: When I wash my clothes I try not to wrinkle them too much so when they get dry there’s no need for me to iron them. This way, I am able to conserve electricity.

 

...Although in my case, its more a case of laziness.

A: I don't smoke =)




Well, smoking does cause pollution. So not smoking must mean environmental conservation.
There go my brownie points.

Answer: I conserve air-conditioning at home by hanging out at a mall on weekends.

How to Stay Away From Work - Sick Leave Reasons you can send your manager before falling back into bed!!!

These are what I call the '8 am fantastic excuses for not coming to work' sms reasons I've received from people who work with me. Its actually quite a big list, but these ones below are the gems from the lot that i've still saved on my phone

• "I stay in bed today. I feel e room spinning. Will come to office day after tomorrow" (How do you know in advance that it will take 2 days for the room to stop spinning. I did wonder, but i didn't ask)
• "Good Morning, Yesterday at midnight I fainted and fell in e toilet. Got 50cents bump on my forehead. Feeling nausea and room spinning at times. Doc said I should rest. So I am resting"
• "My doctor said I have a salt imbalance in my body and I should not go to the office"
• "Last night I went home, and I was walking in my house and I banged my toes against the cupboard. I rest today and come to work tomorrow"

While reading these, it is also nice to note that in Singapore (atleast in my workplace) you need a Medical Certificate for all sick leave that you take. Even if it is for one day. And I've always received a certificate the next day from my sickly bunch

Drinking is healthy for lazy smokers

The Sydney Morning Herald is now among my favourite newspapers.
They had this very very interesting article to make my morning:

Drinking can be good for your heart. But you have to be a lazy smoker with an aversion to fruit and vegetables to reap the full benefits In possibly the most unfair medical finding this year, Britain's leading researcher on the link between health and behaviour, the Australian expatriate Michael Marmot, found that smokers with the worst diets and poorest exercise habits could consume as many as 14 standard drinks a week - the threshold of what is considered harmful under proposed Australian guidelines - and still lower their risk of having a heart attack, stroke or other form of cardiovascular disease.....

Unfair my arse... this calls for celebration !! Hic !!!

Eat less red meat to help the environment, UN climate expert says

People should eat less red meat if they want to help combat the effects of climate change, a leading United Nations expert said.
This made new yesterday morning.. and I found this article on the Telegraph site.
I don't intend to comment on this article.. but you need to go to the article and read the comments everyone else has posted there.. very very 'informative' if one can use that word.

How to have a great date and get your girl drunk?

Last week we went to Em by the River again.. there was a lovely Chinese couple at a table near us.. well, no, they weren't lovely.. funny and entertaining yes.. all we did that whole evening was look at their table and laugh... big lesson this was on how to have a great date and get your girl drunk at the same time while staying completely sober yourself.

Scene: couple are drinking wine, (also tea, water and some other drinks at the same time) The girl is talking..on and on... and the guy is barely trying to listen.
One minute later: they clink their wine glasses - The girl has a sip, the man wets his lips with wine and then has a HUGE sip of water..
30 secs later: same thing,. everytime they have a sip of wine, then clink glasses and he drinks more water than wine...
2 hrs later: She's left for the loo and he tops her drink with his own.
Man to waitress: "I want water!! MORE WATER !! "

Girl returns, same things goes on for another couple of hours...

How to save on wedding costs

Somewhere in the near futures (4 or 5 years more like it) the Boyfriend and me should be tying that knot (more like strangling as far as he is concerned) Now we don't want a big wedding, but our family & friends are big enough to occupy the entire island of Madagascar (i like to move it move it..sorry, that song just follows when i think of that country)
Anywho...this is my brilliant plan to ensure not so many guests turn up
I know he likes the plan but for the record, he does not want anything to do with it
So here goes..

I am a very bad singer.. terrible, horrible, 'scratching nails on a blackboard is better' would not be doing it justice.
So.. we will have a pre-wedding party, where we invite the people who we do not want at our wedding but have to invite either because we'll need to know them for some work later or out of social nicety and all that jazz..
At the party i announce that i will be singing a lot of beautiful heart warming songs throughout the wedding reception and then go on to sing a preview of what is to come on the big day..

If that doesn't make them want to be miles away on the wedding day, nothing will.
